That’s right, it’s time for another Dad Lesson. Hell yeah!

Today we’re talking about strength training. Previous to this past week, I can tell you with real certainty that I’d never considered weight lifting to be on my fatherly bucket list. I mean, maybe lifting a beer to my mouth??? I’ve done a lot of that!

Now? I’m considering putting together a strength program that would get me jacked like Bruce Willis in that famous Christmas classic, Die Hard. Yes, that’s right! The kind of upper body strength that would allow me to sling myself into an air duct while propelling down an elevator shaft and/or easily jump from an exploding building wrapped only in a firehose for security as Alan Rickman (RIP) attempts to end my life.

CINEMA!!!!

But enough about Bruce Willis. Today we’re talking about achievable strength training gains and that means we’re talking with my good buddy, Stef Rubino.

Stef is a real rockstar of a human being and impossibly funny. We’ve been friends for several years now and I’m always excited to talk to them about books, criticism, and incredibly dumb horror movies. They run the podcast Fat Guy, Jacked Guy with their great friend (and lifting buddy) Brendan Walsh. Stef also strength trains several people I know - including my wife - and everyone always raves about their results. I was anxious to talk to Stef all about the World of the Meathead, so they very kindly agreed to come up to Orlando to visit for a couple of days. They showed me the ropes of weight lifting (the literal ropes!!! you actually use ropes???). Boy, did I learn a LOT.
